Passion for the Profession

Originally misled by a high school guidance counselor I ended up in the Mechanical Engineering curriculum. Not being very strong in math, I tried to transfer to Fine and Applied Arts in Architecture. My interest was in architectural engineering (structural engineering) but it required too much math. I requested a transfer into the Landscape Architecture program. My introductory classes brought me to the realization, that “this” is what I really wanted to do. Design outdoor spaces, landforms, and play environments.

Outside Interests

Steve is an avid golfer. He began playing golf in the summer of 1963. He also enjoys sports officiating including high school and youth basketball since 1973, and high school football since 2001. Steve has officiated a few DIII basketball games and some semi-professional basketball games. He feels it’s much more fun officiating high school than college or semi-professional.

Steve is also an avid Illinois fan, ILL-INI and want the “Chief” brought back. Steve hails from Harvard, Illinois where he attended Harvard High School where he was the only student to mak ethe golf team all four years. He played first-man on his high school golf team as a senior, (playing with women’s clubs), and graduated from high school at 4’11” and weighed less than 100 lbs. Steve met the love of his life the first week he began working for the Elk Grove Park District, and has been happily married for more than 37 years, and has been blessed with one fantastic son and daughter-in-law.
