Orland Grasslands Mitigation Area

Orland Grasslands South addition is reclaimed from agricultural fields. In the expansion of the Jane Addam’s Tollway, The Illinois Tollway agreed to create new and enhance existing wetland to offset wetland lost during development. This area is approximately 150 acres of prairie, wet prairie, wet meadow, sedge meadow, emergents, open water, and a restored portion of Marley Creek.

PRI, in addition to the aiding of the design of the project, monitors the water levels monthly during the growing season to ensure wetland hydrology is present in mitigation area. PRI also inventories the vegetation of each zone several times a year through meander and transect methodologies.
