Central Park Gateway Gardens

The City of Wheaton and the Wheaton Park District took the opportunity to re-imagine 3.5 acres of property that was partially controlled by the Park District in Wheaton’s Central core creating a new Central Athletic Complex. The area is highlighted by Gateway Park, a garden entrance to downtown Wheaton. Planning Resources assisted the Park District with the development and final design that now includes an adaptive reuse including a portion of the former high school building, a new Mariano’s Grocery Fresh Market, ornamental gardens and programmed athletic fields. Several grants helped make this project possible including funding through the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Development and the Illinois department of natural Resources.
